TGM NEWS
Look-back at IDS West
The Good Mod made its way up to Vancouver, B.C. in late September to participate in the much anticipated Interior Design Show West (IDS West), representing phenomenal Pacific Northwest establishments, design firms, and creative thinkers.
For our first trade show, and one at such high level no less, we decided to showcase what we do well: excellent craftsmanship with an experimental and playful attitude.
One thing we’ve been playing around with a lot has been CNC Line Drawings. We decided to take this as inspiration for our back wall, and developed a decorative wall system with flexible elastic to give our ping pong table a show-worthy backdrop.
The TGM Ping Pong Conference Table—walnut with copper inlay, copper plated legs and a custom copper net system—was truly the highlight of our booth and wrapped many a visitor up in some fun time-out. The booth showcased the myriad of options available in such a system: wood types from walnut and oak to marble or Corian, powder-coated steel legs in any color imaginable, and center strip inlay in silver, brass, copper or powder-coated steel.
For those wanting to take a seat and hang out a bit, we presented our TGM Sling Lounge: vegetable tanned leather with brass and copper hardware on a turquoise powder-coated flat-packable frame.

We had a blast! Check out our ping pong table options and sling lounge on our site, and follow us on Instagram for more ridiculous videos like this one.

A touch of TGM in the Pope Mobile
Custom projects at The Good Mod come in all shapes and sizes, from multiples to one-off projects of custom routing, engraving, and other 3D modeling and rendering. We recently helped Kendall Mingey of Cupolette realize the walnut base for the Portland Rose Reliquary, which traveled with Mayor Charlie Hales and First Lady Nancy Hales to Rome for a two-day summit on cities and climate change hosted by the Vatican, and was gifted to Pope Francis. We hear it even rode in the Pope Mobile!

The hand-crafted bronze rose on a walnut base, acts as a reliquary, which has a small compartment in the bud at the center, in which several seeds from Portland’s white roses were placed. The engraving reads: “From Portland, the City of Roses, for His Holiness, Pope Francis, 2015.”

20,000 Leagues Above Average
"The human mind delights in grand conceptions of supernatural beings."
- Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870)
The Team at The Good Mod recently completed a custom and supernatural 16’ x 8’ boardroom table with a nautical theme for the AirBnB Headquarters Offices in San Francisco. The table fits into the largest of their concept conference rooms, masterfully designed by the Airbnb Environments Team, to fit the fantastical theme based on Jules Verne’s novel Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. This was yet another wonderful collaboration with the amazing team at Airbnb.

Designed, engineered and constructed within a never-ever-heard-of turnaround time of 14 days, this largest of all meeting room tables is a handmade wonder of nature. The walnut-encased tabletop upholstered in brown leather elegantly interfaces with the circular brass inlays, referencing cartographic tables and ancient navigational tools—all while helping you connect and charge your very contemporary electronics right at your meeting table, via outlet, USB, Com port outlets that integrate with the entire conference room. The curvilinear concave rolled steel legs (700 pounds!) connect with a solid walnut mast, contributing to the look of a regal nautical vessel. With a highly cantilevered top, you feel the ship sailing in.

"From the very beginning, it was such a treat to collaborate with you. After presenting our ideas and inspiration—which you all were so receptive to—you were so great in helping us identify the needs for the project. Together we were able to successfully problem solve and come up with a final design that created the perfect pieces for the space. Thank you for everything—We love TGM!"
