Design Arne Jacobsen, 1967
Wood veneer, steel, plastic
Made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen

Designed by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in 1955, the Series 7, Model 3107 Chair remains one of the most renowned and widely reproduced chairs in the world. Conceived in the atmosphere of post war industrialization, Arne Jacobsenʼs model 3107 chair was designed within the context of a manufacturing driven economy, utilizing relatively new processes of veneer moulding and steel bending. The ability to rapidly recreate exact copies of this unique design was integral to the chairs success.

When sitting in a Series 7 chair, one feels the backrest flex and adjust, cradling the weight and reaching equilibrium at a comfortable sitting angle. The spring in the backrest encourages a healthy posture, provides an appropriate amount of recline when desired, and even offers a little push off the seat when standing up. By using the resiliency of bent plywood Jacobsen allows the chair to adapt and adjust to the sitter. One is able to sit comfortably in this hardwood chair for hours.

The streamline curves of 3107 chair achieve a formal clarity that have elevated this piece of furniture to icon status. The proportions of the veneer shell, its broad backrest, narrow waist , and sculpted seat, embody the human form.

These chairs are painted white and are in good condition aside from the paint needing touch ups in a few spots.
